Pain from the wrist to the thumb whenever you pick up the baby
symptom
I gave birth three months ago, and every time I pick up my baby I feel a sharp pain in my wrist that gets worse.
It became difficult to bend both thumbs, and I could no longer open bottle caps.
When I bend my wrist toward my little finger, I feel pain on the thumb side of my wrist.
Perhaps this was affecting my symptoms, but I had been suffering from severe chronic neck and shoulder stiffness even before I became pregnant, which caused me trouble even during my pregnancy.

Treatment and progress
・First time
There was muscle tension around the clavicles on both sides.
As a result, I was no longer able to bend and straighten my thumb properly.
To relieve the muscle tension around the collarbone, acupuncture was performed on acupressure points near the border between the neck and back.
As a result, I was able to bend and straighten my left thumb more easily and the pain disappeared.
Also, the right thumb only became slightly easier to move.
・Second time
Since the left thumb was in good condition, the same treatment as last time was performed as a preventative measure.
On the right side, the patient was unable to perform flexion and straightening movements, as well as flexion of the hand toward the little finger (ulnar flexion), and complained of pain.
When the nature of the symptoms was investigated, muscle tension was found from around the collarbone to the upper shoulders.
In addition to the previous treatment, acupuncture was performed on pressure points slightly outside the neck and back, which made it easier to move the thumb and reduced the pain by about half.
・3rd to 5th times
Treatment continued from the second session.
He was able to easily flex and straighten his thumbs, and was able to pull open sealed bags with both hands.
However, when bending my hand toward my little finger, I still felt pain on the thumb side of my wrist.
・6th time
After five treatments, pain still occurred in the wrist when bending the hand toward the little finger, so we investigated whether there was any other tension related to the movement.
Muscle tension was found around the right elbow, and acupuncture was performed on the acupressure points on the shoulder to relieve this tension. As a result, the movement of lifting the baby became easier and the pain disappeared.
・7th time
After one week had passed, the patient no longer felt pain during daily activities, so the same treatment as the sixth time was administered as a preventative measure and the treatment was completed.
Acupressure points used
Summary
It was a case of tendonitis, which is common after childbirth.
Since I had been experiencing stiffness in my neck and shoulders even before I became pregnant, I immediately thought that muscle tension in my neck and shoulders might be related.
When picking up a baby, the arms often move away from the torso.
As a result, the act of lifting the baby relies on the strength of the neck and shoulder muscles, which causes additional muscle tension.
In this case, excessive tension in the neck and shoulders caused a loss of range of motion in the elbows and wrists, which turned into pain.
