Treatment and progress

Upon initial examination, palpation and movement assessment revealed limitations in knee flexion and ankle dorsiflexion, with the patient reporting the most severe pain during weight-bearing. Treatment involved acupuncture on gluteal points related to knee movement and gluteal points related to ankle movement. Finally, treatment was performed to improve hip joint movement. After the first treatment, weight-bearing pain subsided, and the symptoms were resolved. There were no further reports regarding the symptoms.

Summary

This case study describes the treatment of a teenage female athlete who developed pain in her left knee and left ankle due to increased training volume in track and field. She exhibited limited knee flexion and ankle dorsiflexion, with significant pain during weight-bearing. Acupuncture treatment on points in the buttocks improved knee and ankle movement, and hip joint adjustments resolved the weight-bearing pain after the first treatment. This case suggests that approaches targeting the related buttocks and hip joints are effective in treating lower limb pain in track and field athletes.
