Pain in the right shoulder when raised to 60 degrees after bench press
symptom
A man in his 50s began experiencing pain in his right shoulder two weeks ago. The symptoms appeared after he performed his regular bench press exercise. Pain occurs at a 60-degree angle when raising and lowering his right shoulder. The pain only occurs during movement and is not felt at rest. In addition to being unable to do strength training, he was also troubled by shoulder stiffness and pain when removing clothes. Due to his desk job, significant tension was observed around his shoulder joint. He had not received any diagnosis or treatment at a medical institution, and was not experiencing any other symptoms such as numbness in his arm.

Treatment and progress
During the initial examination, pain was reproduced at a 60-degree angle both when raising and lowering the right shoulder, and significant tension was observed around the shoulder joint. First, acupuncture was performed on points on the back related to movement, which significantly reduced the pain, but some pain remained when supporting the shoulder at approximately 60 degrees of elevation. Therefore, treatment was performed to relieve tension in the deltoid muscle, and finally, tension in the back was relieved, after which the pain completely disappeared. After the treatment, the patient was able to move their shoulder freely and was very pleased. There were no further reports of symptoms, and the treatment was completed in one session.

Summary
Treatment of the back and deltoid muscle was effective for right shoulder pain that developed after bench pressing. Since the pain occurred at a specific angle of 60 degrees during movement, muscle tension around the shoulder joint was considered the main cause. Treatment of acupoints on the back significantly reduced the pain, and the remaining pain was resolved by relaxing the deltoid muscle tension. It is presumed that the symptoms became apparent when the load of bench pressing was added to chronic shoulder tension caused by desk work. Since the pain completely disappeared and the range of motion returned to normal after just one treatment, it is considered that early and appropriate treatment intervention was effective.
