Acupuncture case study: "Facial nerve paralysis" (Katsuta Station)

Around mid-February, I noticed discomfort in my ears and gradually my eyes became unable to open, so I went to the hospital.
I was diagnosed with facial nerve paralysis and received steroid treatment.
The patient visited the clinic three weeks after the onset of symptoms. Upon arrival, the patient's condition was rated 2 points on the Yanagihara method, indicating almost no facial movement.

Treatment and progress

The treatment was performed with the aim of relieving tension in the neck and shoulder area.
Considering the connection to the shoulders and neck, needles were placed in the buttocks, back, and limbs. Needles were also placed in the head during the treatment.
After one month, the cheek muscles began to contract, and it became possible to close the eyes. Air could be released by puffing out the lips.
After about three months of treatment, I was diagnosed with a score of 34 using the Yanagihara method. People around me said it wasn't noticeable, but I had some difficulty applying force.
The treatment was terminated at the patient's request, as they had recovered to the point where they could not objectively detect any problems in their daily life.

Summary

We believe that the relatively early treatment contributed to the rapid recovery.
I've noticed an increasing number of cases where doctors recommend acupuncture, so I hope we can see some collaboration in the future.
