About a week ago, I experienced pain in my right back after track and field practice. The pain was located at the level of the 8th thoracic vertebra, lateral to the erector spinae muscles, and medial to the line of the medial border of the scapula. The pain occurred during arm swings while running, and during forward, backward, and twisting movements of the trunk. The pain prevented me from performing at my best during exercise. I received low-frequency electrical stimulation at a chiropractic clinic, but there was little improvement. I did not experience any other physical discomfort related to the symptoms.

Treatment and progress
Upon initial examination, a hardened area was found at the site of pain. The pain was reproduced during arm swinging, trunk flexion, trunk extension, and trunk twisting. Acupuncture was performed on points on the back (T8(P), T6(2.5), T7(2.5), T8(2.5), T3(2)), and local acupuncture needles were applied. After the first treatment, the hardened area of pain disappeared, and the pain also disappeared during arm swinging, flexion, extension, and twisting. There were no further reports of symptoms.

This case involves a patient who developed pain in the right side of their back after participating in track and field activities, which interfered with their athletic performance. Palpation revealed induration, and the pain was reproduced during various movements. Acupuncture treatment to specific points on the back and localized application of intradermal needles resulted in the disappearance of the induration and pain after the first treatment. It is believed that the cause was muscle hypertonicity due to exercise, and the appropriate localized treatment was effective. Since there have been no further reports, it is presumed that the symptoms have not recurred.
