A man in his 40s presented with pain centered on his right buttock and a sensation of fluid flowing down the side of his right lower limb. The symptoms had appeared several weeks prior, and given his occupation as a welder, a work-related connection was considered likely. He experienced pain from his right buttock down to his lower limb, accompanied by numbness in his calf. The pain in his buttock was severe at rest and worsened with movement. The constant numbness in his leg was bothersome, and he had suffered from insomnia for several days due to lower back pain. He was unable to rest properly, resulting in a state of physical unrest. He had previously been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis at an orthopedic clinic.

Treatment and progress
At the initial consultation, the patient experienced pain simply by lifting the affected leg while sitting, making it impossible to lie on their back or stomach. After acupuncture on related points in the back and lower back, the pain when lifting the leg while sitting disappeared. Next, when the patient performed movements that extended the thoracic spine, symptoms appeared from the buttocks to the lower limbs. Using acupuncture on points in the back and feet relieved the pain and symptoms. After the first treatment, the pain and numbness disappeared, and treatment was completed in a single session.

Treatment of acupoints on the back and lower back eliminated the pain when raising his legs while sitting, and further treatment of symptoms that appeared during thoracic extension using acupoints on the back and feet completely eliminated the pain and numbness. Symptom improvement was achieved in just one treatment.
