Treatment and progress

Upon initial examination, pain was observed in the medial side of the left knee during knee flexion while standing, but no pain occurred during flexion in a supine position, ruling out joint damage. Palpation revealed excessive muscle tension in the thigh. Acupuncture was performed on acupoints in the buttocks and lumbar acupoints related to the thigh muscles, which relieved the muscle tension in the thigh and eliminated pain during standing and squatting. Subsequently, symptoms recurred when excessive strain was placed on the knee, such as during night shifts, but these were addressed with careful evaluation and treatment each time, and ultimately the pain in the left knee completely disappeared.

Summary

This case illustrates a successful treatment approach for knee pain that developed after a fall, focusing on muscle tension rather than the joint itself. Acupuncture treatment on points in the buttocks and lower back improved hypertonicity in the thigh, eliminating pain during movement. The same approach was used when the pain recurred, yielding positive results. This case suggests the importance of appropriately evaluating and treating not only the local area but also the condition of related muscle groups in the treatment of knee pain.
