I have a sudden onset of lower back pain, making it difficult to sit and causing severe pain when standing up.
symptom
Three days ago, while reaching for something below, I felt a sharp pain radiating from my left lower back to my buttocks. I temporarily relieved the pain by using compresses and painkillers on my own, but the pain worsened the next day when I went to work, leading me to visit the clinic. The pain was constant, especially strong when sitting, making it difficult to maintain a seated position. I also had difficulty standing up and bending down, which interfered with daily life and physically demanding work. I was unable to rest and had to remain standing. There were no other physical discomforts related to the symptoms, such as numbness in the legs.

Treatment and progress
During the initial examination, palpation and movement assessment revealed pain in the left lower back and buttocks when sitting, standing, and bending. First, acupuncture was performed on relevant points in the buttocks, reducing the pain by half. Subsequently, because tension in the quadratus lumborum muscle was high, acupuncture was performed on points in the hand, further improving movement. Since some buttock pain remained when sitting, acupuncture was performed on points in the back, completely eliminating the pain. The patient was pleased that their symptoms had disappeared after the treatment.

Summary
In this case, the main complaint was pain in the left lower back and buttocks due to acute lower back pain. The pain was particularly severe when sitting, significantly interfering with daily life and work. Treatment involved acupuncture on points in the buttocks, hands, and back, gradually reducing pain and improving movement. Ultimately, the pain completely disappeared, and the patient was highly satisfied. The approach to acupoints was effective, and by relieving the muscle tension causing the symptoms, improvement was possible in a short period of time. In the future, it is considered important to select acupoints according to the nature of the pain and the limitations in movement when treating cases of acute lower back pain.
