Treatment and progress
Upon initial examination, the patient was unable to lift their leg even when marching in place, and had difficulty bending and straightening their knee. In the first treatment, acupuncture was performed on acupoints in the right buttock, back of the thigh, and back of the knee, where the symptoms were most severe. After the treatment, the tension in the back of the thigh eased, and the patient felt lighter. After just one treatment, the right side became easier to use, and the patient was able to climb stairs without pain. The left side still had symptoms, so it was treated similarly, and the pain deep in the kneecap disappeared, and the patient was able to live a normal life without any problems. After five treatments, the pain level decreased from an initial 10 to a 5, and the patient was able to do light exercise as before, so the treatment was concluded. The patient reported that there had been no recurrence.

In a case presenting with knee pain and difficulty with daily activities, acupuncture on points in the buttocks, hamstrings, and behind the knee proved effective. With repeated treatments, pain during activities such as climbing stairs and driving decreased. The heaviness and dullness in the hamstrings and buttocks, which the patient had experienced in addition to knee pain, also eased, improving their quality of life. In this case, it is believed that addressing not only the area around the knee but also related areas contributed to the improvement of symptoms.
