Acupuncture case study: "Lateral epicondylitis causing pain from strenuous physical labor" (Katsuta Station)

The patient's job involves frequent use of the right hand, and they had been experiencing pain in their right elbow for several weeks prior to their visit. Based on resistance to the forearm extensor muscles and a positive middle finger extension test, lateral epicondylitis was diagnosed.

Treatment and progress

Needles were inserted mainly into the back with the aim of relieving tension in the extensor muscles. A slight relaxation was observed after the first session, but the patient did not report any subjective changes.
Since a reduction in pain was observed for several days after the treatment, the same treatment was performed once a week for about four weeks.

During the treatment, there was an increase in pain after heavy labor, but after four treatment sessions, the discomfort and other symptoms disappeared, so the treatment was concluded.

Summary

The pain from epicondylitis is often chronic because many people who suffer from chronic pain have difficulty maintaining a resting position.
However, I believe that our ability to appropriately address the root cause and aim for the right tension led to a speedy recovery.
