Acupuncture case study: "Pain in the back of the neck due to stress in an unfamiliar environment" (Higashi-Muroran Station)

The main complaints were pain and a feeling of a foreign object when looking upwards, and the symptoms had been gradually worsening for the past three months. The stiffness in the back of the neck was particularly severe, causing pain during movement and increasing stiffness at rest. This constantly bothered the patient in daily life and at work, leading to decreased concentration and an inability to look upwards, resulting in a feeling of unease. The patient had not received any diagnosis or treatment from a medical institution, and had also reported developing eye strain. It is thought that the physical and mental stress accumulated from starting a new job in an unfamiliar environment may have contributed to the symptoms.

Treatment and progress

At the initial consultation, the patient reported severe tension in the left posterior neck, with significant pain and a feeling of a foreign object when looking upwards. After acupuncture on related points on the shin and head, the pain shifted to the back, so acupuncture was then applied to points on the back of the hand and head. As a result, the pain, foreign object feeling, and stiffness during movement improved significantly. After the first treatment, the patient expressed their delight and felt a noticeable improvement in their symptoms.
