Acupuncture case study: "Functional dyspepsia with severe epigastric pain and nausea that disrupts sleep" (Ama City, Aichi Prefecture / Meitetsu Shippo Station)

Two months prior to the initial consultation, the patient experienced pain around the stomach and in the upper abdomen, as well as nausea.
The symptoms worsened especially at night, to the point where the pain and nausea caused me to wake up in the middle of the night.
Blood tests, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, and CT scans were performed at a medical institution, but no structural abnormalities were found, and the patient was diagnosed with suspected functional dyspepsia.
I also experienced general fatigue, which interfered with my daily life.

Treatment and progress

At the initial examination, significant hardness was observed in the epigastric region and above the navel.
During the initial treatment, acupuncture was performed on the following acupoints: left Sidou, left Diji, right Yanglingquan, right 3rd thoracic vertebra (4), left 4th thoracic vertebra (4), and left 12th thoracic vertebra (3).
After the treatment, the symptoms showed slight improvement. The GSRS score showed an improving trend, from 46 points in the first session to 37 points in the second session, 31 points in the third session, and finally decreasing to 24 points in the fourth session. Treatment was performed once a week for the first six sessions, and then every two weeks thereafter.
Although the patient experienced a temporary exacerbation of symptoms due to work-related stress, continuous treatment ultimately improved their GSRS score to 18 points.
Currently, there are almost no problems in daily life.
