Palpitations due to atrial fibrillation requiring surgery

Palpitations due to atrial fibrillation requiring surgery

symptom

Acupuncture case study: "Palpitations due to atrial fibrillation requiring surgery" (Sangenjaya Station, Setagaya Ward)

I had palpitations for five years and was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. However, at that time, the symptoms only appeared when I drank alcohol.
However, for the past two years, the symptoms have appeared regardless of alcohol consumption, and although I have tried various treatments, there has been no improvement, so I have decided to undergo surgery next year.
The patient came to our clinic hoping to alleviate the severe palpitations that lasted for more than an hour until their surgery.

It has been diagnosed as a disorder of the cardiac conduction system, and apparently surgery is the only option.
I usually experience relatively short (small) palpitations/irregular heart palpitations and palpitations that last for more than an hour (large heart palpitations).
I often experience severe palpitations during hot or cold weather, or when there are significant temperature fluctuations. I had one recently on a hot day, and I'd like to feel a little better as winter approaches.

Accompanying symptoms include reflux esophagitis (which tends to increase palpitations when symptoms appear) and sleep apnea syndrome.

Treatment and progress

First visit
A full-body check performed to alleviate palpitations revealed significant stiffness in the back.
Hardness was also observed in the upper abdomen.
First, acupuncture needles were inserted into the arm to loosen the back, and the back began to relax.
Next, in response to the reaction in the abdomen, acupuncture needles were inserted into the hands and lower legs.

Second consultation
I did not experience any severe palpitations lasting more than an hour. My symptoms of reflux esophagitis had also subsided.
The same treatment as the initial consultation was performed. Additional acupuncture points were added to the knee.

3th-4th consultation
Due to the drastic temperature fluctuations, I experienced severe palpitations about twice a week. The symptoms of reflux esophagitis have subsided. Treatment continued for the stiffness in my back and abdomen.

5th-6th consultation
Despite relatively cold days and some ups and downs, there have been no major palpitations. The frequency of minor arrhythmias has also decreased. There is also some loosening of the back muscles. The same treatment was performed.

7th consultation onwards
Although it's gotten colder, I haven't experienced any major palpitations. I also haven't had any symptoms of reflux esophagitis. The reactions I had in my back and abdomen have almost completely disappeared.
She continues to receive treatment once a week. Although the cold weather usually causes her palpitations to become stronger and more frequent, she says she hasn't experienced any major palpitations.

Summary

This was a case of arrhythmia and palpitations in a patient diagnosed with worsening atrial fibrillation, requiring surgery for a complete resolution.
The patient's request wasn't so much to be cured, but rather to have the painful palpitations alleviated as much as possible until the surgery.
Even in this condition, the treatment resulted in a reduction in palpitations.
Furthermore, the patient mentioned that symptoms of reflux esophagitis seemed to be contributing to their palpitations, so it was beneficial that we were able to treat them holistically, taking into account the balance of their entire body.
Although she still experiences minor arrhythmias, she said she feels much better because she's not having the severe, prolonged palpitations she used to have.
