Acupuncture case study: "I haven't been able to lift my shoulder for the past two days" (Higashi-Muroran Station)

Two mornings ago, I woke up to find I couldn't lift my shoulder. I felt like I could barely open my armpit. It was a sudden and shocking event, but there was nothing I could do. A friend recommended this clinic, which is why I came here.

Treatment and progress

Upon examination, significant limitation of lifting was observed, and the patient reported strong tension in the anterior chest. Palpation revealed specific tension, so acupuncture was performed on related acupoints on the thumb. This restored movement to less than 100 degrees. Next, considering its connection to the anterior shoulder joint, acupuncture was performed on acupoints on the posterior neck, and in relation to the hip joint, acupuncture was also performed on acupoints on the ankle.
The temperature had risen to 140 degrees Celsius, so we called it a day.
After the second session, the patient reported that "recovery has progressed even further since two days after the treatment."
The restriction in lifting was eliminated, but the restriction in external rotation was still strong, so adjustments were made to accommodate the movement. The treatment was completed after confirming that the asymmetry between the left and right sides had disappeared.

Summary

The patient had significant tension in their thumb, which was restricting their shoulder movement. After the treatment, I asked, "Have you been doing anything that put strain on your thumb? Have you experienced any tenosynovitis?" They replied, "I don't have tenosynovitis, but now that you mention it, I have been spending a lot of time playing video games at home." In recent years, the widespread use of personal devices such as smartphones and tablets has led to increased overuse of the thumb. This case is one example of this, where the tension in the thumb was one of the factors contributing to the tension in the chest, thus restricting shoulder movement.
