My knees hurt when I sit in the seiza position.
symptom
The patient, who works in the cleaning industry, has been experiencing knee pain for a week, which has been gradually worsening. The pain is particularly severe with movements that put strain on the affected side, and in daily life, sitting in a kneeling position no longer allows the buttocks to touch the heels. Since there was no other possible cause or trigger that could be identified outside of work, the patient contacted our clinic.

Treatment and progress
Observing the movements involved in kneeling, it was observed that pain was felt primarily on the outer side of the body during the movement.
First, acupuncture was performed on the relevant pressure points behind the knee. Then, the patient reported pain centered around the fibula, so acupuncture was performed on pressure points in the lower back, which improved movement. Finally, increasing the range of motion of the ankle eliminated most of the pain.

Summary
The patient's knee pain was caused by sitting in the seiza position, and the key to this case was relieving the tension in the back of the knee. Due to her cleaning job, she is very active and experiences significant tension in her lower body, so we focused particularly on the back of her knee and her lower back.
