Acupuncture case study: "Back pain when lying on my back" (Higashi-Muroran Station)

For the past two weeks, I've been experiencing back pain when lying on my back, making it difficult to fall asleep. I can't think of any particular reason why this might have occurred, and it has gradually worsened. Initially, the symptoms only appeared when I was lying on my back, but for the past few days, I've felt a heaviness in my back when sitting, and a stiffness when I move. A few years ago, I had similar symptoms and went to an orthopedic surgeon, who told me it was due to scoliosis. At that time, I was advised to rest for several weeks and have my condition monitored, so I was contacted by this doctor who wanted a different perspective.

Treatment and progress

Severe tension was observed along the medial border of the scapula, and the patient complained of pain in the affected area when lying on their back.
First, acupuncture was performed on relevant points in the buttocks. Additionally, acupuncture was added to points in the feet to enhance the effect. Next, acupuncture was performed on points in the feet to address the effects of scoliosis. During this time, the patient was lying on their back, but after about 5 minutes, they reported some pain.
Therefore, in addition to acupuncture points in the neck, acupuncture was also performed on acupuncture points in the hamstrings to relieve tension in the lower body.
After checking, the patient was able to lie on their back for about 10 minutes, so the treatment was completed.

Summary

Due to its structure, the scapula is supported by muscles and therefore mutually influences the neck, back, buttocks, lower back, and hamstrings. This case was resolved by using acupuncture to release tension in the areas that were excessively tense within this region.
