Knee pain that prevents me from sitting in the seiza position.
symptom
Two weeks ago, I started experiencing pain behind my knee while at work, and as I tried to protect it, the pain spread from the inside to the front. There was no swelling or heat, but the pain persisted when I bent or straightened my knee, so I went to a nearby orthopedic clinic. There, I was told that it was "adult Osgood-Schlatter disease caused by thickening of the synovial membrane on the inside." I was given a week's supply of patches and painkillers and monitored my condition, but there was no change. Then, yesterday, I went back to the same orthopedic clinic, but was told that "rest is the only option," so I looked for other options and came across your clinic. At home, I live a traditional Japanese lifestyle, so I haven't been able to sit in the seiza position for about a week, and I also feel a heaviness in my affected knee.

Treatment and progress
There was significant tension in the gluteal region, which is the starting point for knee movement, and specific tension was observed in the lower back and behind the knees.
First, acupuncture needles were inserted into pressure points on the buttocks. Next, needles were inserted into the lower back and behind the knees, and when the knee movement was checked, there was still some pain on the inside when bending the knee, and pain was felt on the outside of the knee when sitting in a kneeling position.
Acupuncture was then performed on the corresponding acupoints on the back, behind the knees, and lower back, and the pain during movement disappeared. The patient also confirmed this by sitting in a kneeling position and said, "The pain in my knees is gone," so the treatment was concluded.
A week later, I received a referral from the family and learned that the patient's condition was progressing well.

Summary
The diagnosis was "adult Osgood-Schlatter disease," but what caught our attention was the poor movement of the knee. The pain, which started behind the knee, caused various parts of the body to compensate, leading to strain. Therefore, by relieving the tension in the surrounding tissues with the aim of reducing the strain on the knee, the movement improved and the pain disappeared. The most important point in this case is that the tension in the gluteal muscles was restricting the movement of the knee.
