Pain between the base of the first and second metatarsals when running
symptom
Running is a daily habit for the patient, who usually runs at least 3km, and when he has time, runs around 10km outside almost every day. For the past week, when he runs, he has felt pain and discomfort between the bases of the first and second metatarsals of his left foot. When he touched the affected area, he found something squishy like a grain of rice, and he thought this might be the cause. It was not in a place where he could apply a compress, so he came to the clinic thinking, "If I apply acupuncture here, it will probably heal."

Treatment and progress
When examining the tension in the lower back, which is related to the toes, we found specific tension that had become stiff in the right lower back, on the opposite side. Furthermore, when examining the range of motion of the hip joint, we found that there was limited flexion in the right hip joint. Therefore, we performed acupuncture on the stiffness found in the right lower back. When we checked the rice-grain-sized mass that had been found in the affected toe, it had disappeared. We also confirmed that the range of motion of the right hip joint had also been freed, and then we concluded the treatment.
Two weeks later, the patient came to me for advice about a different problem and said, "Come to think of it, I hadn't been worried about that," so the matter was closed.
Acupressure points used
Summary
The rice grain-shaped area found between the metatarsal bases was linked to blockage in the lumbar facet joint. Therefore, the treatment was carried out with the aim of removing the blockage in the lumbar facet joint. It was also linked to the movement of the contralateral hip joint, and the key point in this case was that the acupoint was selected to resolve these issues.
